Revelation 13
And he stood on the sand of the sea, and I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns, and seven heads, and on his horns ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.
And the beast that I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion, and the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority.
And I saw one of his heads as if it was slain to death, and his mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast,
and they worshiped the dragon, because he gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? And who is able to war with him?”
And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and there was given to him authority to continue 42 months.
And he opened his mouth to utter blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.
And it was given to him to make war with the holy ones, and to overcome them, and there was given to him authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.
And all who live on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written in the book of life of the Lamb that has been slain from the foundation of the world.
If anyone has an ear, he had better listen!
If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he goes. If anyone is to be killed by the sword, then by the sword he will be killed. This calls for the endurance and the trust of the holy ones.
And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb, and yet he spoke like a dragon.
And he will exercise all the authority of the first beast in his sight. And he will make the earth and those who live on it worship the first beast, whose death-stroke was healed.
And he will do great signs, so that he will even make fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the sight of people.
And he will deceive those who live on the earth by the signs that were given him to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who live on the earth to make a statue of the beast who had the stroke of the sword and lived.
And it was granted to him to give life to it—to the statue of the beast—so that the statue of the beast could both speak and cause as many as would not worship the statue of the beast to be killed.
And he will make everyone, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slave, be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead,
so that no one will be able to buy or to sell unless he has the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
This calls for wisdom. Whoever has understanding, let him count the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.
