John 14
“Do not let your heart be troubled. Continue to trust in God and continue to trust in me.
In my Father’s house are many places to live. If it were not so, I would have told you, for I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will receive you to myself so that where I am you will be also.
And where I am going, you know the way.”
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
“If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you know him, and have seen him.”
Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you such a long time, and you do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’
Do you not believe that I am in union with the Father, and the Father is in union with me? The words that I am saying to you I am not speaking from myself, but the Father living in union with me does his works.
Keep on believing me, that I am in union with the Father and the Father in union with me, or else keep believing me because of the works themselves.
Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who continues to believe in me, the works that I do, he will do also, and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, so that the Father is glorified in the Son.
If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments,
and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper, which will be with you forever.
This helper is the spirit of truth, which the world is not able to receive, because it does not see it or know it. You know it, for it is present with you, and will be in you.
I will not leave you as orphans: I will come to you.
A little while longer and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.
In that day you will know that I am in union with my Father, and you are in union with me, and I am in union with you.
“Whoever has my commandments, and keeps them, that is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.”
Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, what has happened that now you are only going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you are hearing is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
And the helper, the holy spirit, which the Father will send in my name, it will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give it to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.
You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away,’ and ‘I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
And now I have told you before it comes to pass, so that when it comes to pass, you will believe.
I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. However, he has no power over me,
but I do as the Father has commanded me so that the world can know that I love the Father. Get up, let’s leave from here.
