Genesis 33
Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and with him were 400 men. He divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two female slaves.
He put the female slaves and their children in front, Leah and her children after them, and Rachel and Joseph after them.
He himself advanced in front of them, and bowed down to the ground seven times as he came near his brother.
Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and hugged his neck, and kissed him, and they wept.
Then he lifted up his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
Then the female slaves came near, with their children, and they bowed down.
Leah also and her children came near and bowed down. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed down.
And Esau said, “What do you mean by all these herds that I met?” Jacob said, “These are to find favor in the eyes of my lord.”
But Esau said, “I have an abundance, my brother. Let what you have be yours.”
Jacob said, “No, please! If I have now found favor in your eyes, then receive my present from my hand, because I have seen your face, which is like seeing the face of God, and you have received me favorably.
Please take the blessing that has been brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have all I need.” So he urged him, and he took it.
Esau said, “Let’s begin our journey and go, and I will accompany you.”
But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are quite young, and that the flocks and herds with me are nursing their young, so if they are driven too hard for even one day, all the flocks will die.
Please let my lord go on ahead of his servant, and I will lead my flocks on slowly, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord, toward Seir.”
So Esau said, “Let me leave with you some of the men who are with me.” He said, “Why do that? My lord has already been kind enough to me.”
So Esau returned that day, going on his way toward Seir.
But Jacob traveled to Sukkoth, and built himself a house and made shelters for his livestock (so the name of the place is called “Sukkoth”).
Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem that is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram, and encamped before the city.
He bought the parcel of ground (where he spread his tent) from the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for 100 qisitah,
He erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel.
