Acts 14
And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews and spoke in such a way that a great multitude of both Jews and Greeks believed.
But the Jews who were defiant stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
Therefore they spent a long time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who testified to the message of his grace by granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
The people of the city were divided; some were with the Jews, and some with the apostles.
But when an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and the Jews (including their rulers), to mistreat and stone them,
they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding area,
and they proclaimed the good news there.
And in Lystra a certain man was sitting who had no strength in his feet. He was a cripple from his mother’s womb and had never walked.
This man listened to Paul as he was speaking. And after looking directly at him and seeing that he had trust to be healed,
Paul said in a loud voice, “Stand up on your feet!” And he leaped up and was walking around.
And when the crowd saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice in the Lycaonian language, saying, “The gods have become like men and have come down to us.”
And they called Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.
And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates. He, along with the crowd, was wanting to offer a sacrifice.
But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard about it, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out
and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you! And we are telling you the good news so that you turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them,
who, in past generations, allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways.
And yet he did not leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.”
And even though they said these things, they had great difficulty stopping the crowd from offering sacrifices to them.
But Jews came from Antioch of Pisidia and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowd, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, assuming that he was dead.
But when the disciples gathered around him, he got up and entered the city. And on the next day he went out with Barnabas to Derbe.
And after they had proclaimed the good news in that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch of Pisidia,
strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and teaching that we cannot avoid going through many hardships on our way into the kingdom of God.
And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they committed them to the Lord, in whom they had believed.
And having passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.
And from there they sailed to Antioch of Syria, where the believers had entrusted them into God’s gracious care for the work that they had fulfilled.
And when they came to Antioch and gathered the church together, they reported everything that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of trust for the Gentiles.
And they spent no little time with the disciples.
