2 Timothy 1
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, which is in keeping with furthering the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,
2to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3I give thanks to God, whom I serve with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day,
4longing to see you (having remembered your tears), so that I can be filled with joy.
5I am reminded of the sincere trust that is in you, which first dwelled in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that it is also in you.
6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.
7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and self-control.
8Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share with me in suffering for the good news, relying on the power of God.
9He is the one who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not based on our works but based on his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,
10but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who on the one hand destroyed the power of death, and on the other hand brought life and incorruptibility to light through the good news,
11for which I was appointed a herald, and an apostle, and a teacher,
12which is why I also am suffering these things. But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which he has entrusted to me until that day.
13Hold to the pattern of sound words that you have heard from me with the trust and love that are in Christ Jesus.
14Guard the good deposit through the power of the holy spirit that dwells in us and that has been entrusted to us.
15You know this: that all who are in the province of Asia turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.
17On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he diligently searched for me and found me.
18May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that Day. And you know very well how much he ministered at Ephesus.
